You can make money online without investing – but “without investing” means not “without effort” but “without money”. Instead of starting capital you invest time, skills and consistency. The good news is that most of the tools – platforms, social media, affiliate programmes – are free.

This part of the guide covers nine ways that do not need a single euro to start: how long they take, what you need and which traps to watch out for.

In short

  • The fastest ways without investment are selling your own things and services you already know how to do.
  • The greatest potential without investment lies in affiliate marketing and freelancing.
  • If a “free” job requires you to pay for registration or training – it is not a job but a scam.

What earning with no starting capital means

Any business requires something. When there is no money, three things take its place: your time (a few hours a week), skills (what you can do or can learn quickly) and trust (people you know, followers, reviews). The more you have of one, the less you need of another.

That is why real money online without investment most often comes not from “systems” but from very simple things: an item sold, a lesson given, a text written, a product recommended.

9 ways to make money without investing

1. Selling your own things

Selling your own things is the fastest way to get your first money with no investment at all.

Clothes, books, children's things, electronics, furniture – what you no longer need can be sold within a few days on classified ad portals and second-hand platforms. Good photos in daylight, an honest description of the condition and a quick reply to the buyer sell better than a low price.

Taxes: the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) states that if income from the sale of other property not subject to registration (for example, your own used things) does not exceed 2 500 EUR per year and was received without carrying out self-employment (individuali veikla), no personal income tax has to be paid. Under the EU DAC7 rules, platforms provide VMI with data on sellers who conclude at least 30 transactions per year or receive more than 2 000 EUR.

2. Affiliate marketing

You recommend products with a personal link or a discount code and get a commission for every sale. Registration in affiliate programmes is free, and you need no product or warehouse of your own. Income grows together with the audience, so the first results usually come within a few weeks or months.

3. Freelancing

Texts, translations, design, websites, video editing, programming. Orders are sought on international platforms, in Facebook groups and directly from companies. Platforms charge a fee on earnings – for example, since May 2025 Upwork has applied a variable fee of 0 to 15 % to each contract, so it is worth including it in your price.

4. Lessons and tutoring

Maths, English, music, programming, exam preparation – there is always demand. A video call and an agreed time are enough. Bookings and advance payment can be handled through mr.lt, so that you do not have to arrange times by messaging back and forth.

5. Consultations in your own profession

If you work as an accountant, hairdresser, trainer or designer, or in IT, your knowledge has value outside work as well: short consultations, a CV review, a nutrition or training plan, a website audit. It is a service you can start offering this very week.

6. Virtual assistant

Small businesses need help with emails, the calendar, entering orders, customer enquiries. No special education is needed – what is needed is reliability and good writing skills. The first clients are easiest to find among businesses you know.

7. Social media management

Cafés, beauty salons and tradespeople often have no time for their Facebook and Instagram accounts. If you can take photos with a phone and write short texts, you can offer a few posts a week for a monthly fee.

8. Content creation

A blog, a YouTube channel, a TikTok or Instagram account – free to start but the slowest to earn from. The money here comes from affiliate marketing, sponsors and your own products, so it is worth choosing one topic from the very first days and posting regularly.

9. Surveys and small tasks

Survey platforms and microtask apps pay little – usually cents or a few euros, paid out once you have collected a minimum amount. This suits spare time, but not as a source of income.

Real money online or a scam?

Ads for “earnings without investment” are scammers' favourite cover. The rule is simple: a real job or programme never asks for your money to get started. If you are asked to pay for “training”, a “starter pack”, a “licence” or “collecting a prize” – stop. Likewise, never transfer other people's money through your account “for a percentage” – it is a money laundering scheme for which the account holder is liable.
