“Parduodu naudotą” (selling used), “perku parduodu” (buy and sell), “dovanoju” (giving away) – in Lithuania these words are searched for thousands of times every month, but there is no single place where everything sells best. Buyers of a dress search a clothing platform by size and brand, and buyers of a sofa – in their own town, so that they can drive over and take it away.

This article covers where to post a listing by type of item: clothes, electronics, furniture, children's goods, collectibles. It also covers when a pawnshop or a buy-up dealer is worth choosing and what to do with things nobody buys.

In short

  • Anything that fits in a parcel locker is easiest to sell on a platform where the buyer pays straight away and buys the shipping label themselves.
  • Large items are bought by locals: a classifieds portal and Facebook Marketplace.
  • A pawnshop and a buy-up dealer pay the same day, but less than you would get selling yourself.
  • What does not sell for 5 € goes faster in the giveaway section – and frees up space.

How to choose: three questions

  1. Does the item fit in a parcel locker? If so, your pool of buyers is the whole country, and in the case of Vinted also Latvia, Estonia, Poland and mainland Finland. If not, the buyer has to live nearby.
  2. Will the buyer want to inspect it? People want to see expensive electronics, a bicycle, a piece of furniture. Here your town and the possibility of meeting matter.
  3. What matters more to you – price or speed? Selling yourself gets the highest price but takes time. A buy-up dealer or a pawnshop pays straight away and less.

Clothes and footwear

On a clothing platform the buyer searches by size, brand and condition, so fill in these three fields accurately. Cheap items sell better in bundles: the buyer pays one shipping charge for several items. On Skelbiu.lt, clothes and footwear listings are valid for 90 days – longer than in other categories.

What you will not sell anywhere: worn underwear, used cosmetics, earrings – Vinted prohibits these for hygiene reasons.

Phones and electronics

A buyer of electronics is most afraid of two things: that the item will not work and that it is stolen. Evidence deals with both.

  • Photos of the screen switched on, of the settings window with the model and storage size, of the battery health.
  • A purchase receipt or invoice – with them the price is higher.
  • Before selling, sign out of your accounts and restore the factory settings.

Vinted does not allow the sale of jailbroken devices, devices blocked by the operator over unpaid bills and those whose IMEI number is blocked, nor of non-working appliances with visible damage. There the buyer can order the electronics verification service for 5 € – they pay for it, not you. The Skelbiu.lt “Pirkti dabar” feature works in the categories of mobile phones, smartwatches, computer components and accessories.

Furniture and household appliances

Here local listings win. Logistics matters most to the buyer, so describe it straight away: dimensions, weight, whether the piece can be dismantled, which floor it is on, whether there is a lift, whether you will help carry it out. A listing without dimensions gets the question “what are the dimensions?” and often nothing more.

Set a realistic price: a used piece of furniture costs not what you paid for it, but what others pay for one like it today. If nobody has written within two weeks, the price is most likely too high.

Children's goods

Prices of children's clothes and toys are low, so it is worth listing them in bundles by size or age – the buyer pays one shipping charge. Vinted advises adding a photo of the CE marking for toys and uploading photos in which the age or weight restrictions are visible. Before selling a car seat, cot or pram, check whether the product has been recalled in the EU's dangerous products system Safety Gate. The sale of recalled products is also prohibited by the Facebook Marketplace rules.

Collectibles

Coins, badges, postcards, scale models and records have their own buyers who search very specifically – put the year, series and manufacturer in the title. On Skelbiu.lt, collecting listings are valid for 30 days. Vinted prohibits the sale of items regarded as archaeological finds, cultural property or cultural heritage, as well as coins and banknotes currently in use as a means of payment.

Pawnshops and buy-up dealers: when it is worth it

You sell yourselfBuy-up dealerPawnshop
When you get the moneyWhen a buyer turns upThe same dayThe same day
PriceThe highestLower – the dealer has to earn on the resaleBelow market; when pawning you get a loan, not a sale price
Can you get the item backNoNoIf pawned – yes, provided you repay the money with interest on time
Who it suitsWhen you are in no hurryGold, electronics, when you need it fastWhen you need money for a short time and want to get the item back

At a pawnshop, distinguish a sale from a pledge. A pledge is a loan: before signing, read what the interest is, by when the item can be redeemed and what happens if you are late. Before taking an item to a buy-up dealer, look at how much the same thing sells for in listings – you will know how much you are giving up for speed.

When nobody buys: giving away

“Skelbiu dovanoja” (Skelbiu giveaways) is searched for about 390 times a month – quite a few people are waiting for items being given away. Skelbiu.lt has a separate giveaway category whose listings are valid for 30 days, and on Facebook Marketplace an item is shown as free when you enter a price of 0. State in the listing that the item must be collected in person and by when – otherwise you will get a lot of messages and nobody turning up.

Safety is the same on every platform

Real cases from police reports

  • Tauragė. A young man born in 2007 transferred 230 € for a gaming computer, a man born in 2001 – 200 € for an air flow meter found on a social network. They did not receive the items.
  • Klaipėda. A young man born in 2008 transferred 465 € for a car bonnet offered via a social network and did not receive the item.
  • Panevėžys, October 2026. A woman transferred a 550 € advance payment for a small house on wheels she found in a listing. She could no longer reach the seller.

Buyers are cheated with advance payments, sellers – with links “to collect the money”. There is one rule: payment takes place inside the platform, or you hand over the item only after receiving the money. If you have fallen victim, call your bank immediately, then report it to the police via epolicija.lt or by phone on 112.

Frequently asked questions

Where to sell used clothes?

On the clothing platform Vinted – there buyers search by size and brand and pay for shipping themselves. A classifieds portal works for clothes as an additional place.

Where to sell an old phone?

In the Vinted electronics category or on Skelbiu.lt with “Pirkti dabar” – in both cases payment goes through the platform. The device must not be blocked.

Where to sell used furniture?

On Facebook Marketplace and Skelbiu.lt – furniture is bought by locals who come themselves. Be sure to state the dimensions and whether the piece can be dismantled.

Is it worth taking an item to a pawnshop?

Only when you need the money the same day. Selling yourself, you will usually get more, because a buy-up dealer and a pawnshop have to earn on the resale.

Where to give things away for free?

In the Skelbiu.lt giveaway category or on Facebook Marketplace, entering a price of 0.
